There has been a lot of coverage about the slower deliveries from the Post Office and its effect on voting by mail. But I’ve seen little mention of Early Voting In Person, an effective, safe alternative to voting by mail. An alternative that will help avoid clogging the mail and guarantee that your vote is counted.

Like just about everyone else who works for a living (I used to work for a living) I hated trying to vote on Election Day. It sucked even before Covid. You go early — before you have to get to work — and there’s a bunch of Old White People already there. Wanting to get their vote in in the morning before they head over to Hardee’s for coffee and a palaver. On top of that, because I moved to a very rural part of Virginia where some neighbors fly the Confederate flag, I always found the general atmosphere unpleasant.
Then I discovered Early Voting. In Person.
No long lines, in fact no lines, period.

I voted early every year since 2012 (except 2015). Img: Virginia Department of Elections
